A Quick Guide to Different Types of Wines

If you are looking to expand your knowledge about different kinds of wine and don’t know where to start, then look no further. Mac’s Raw Bar on the Marietta Square offers a complete lunch and dinner menu and an extensive wine list. Check out our quick guide to different types of wine to find the perfect pairing for cooking at home.
Red Wines
You don’t have to be a sommelier to know the basics about the different types of wine. If you’ve gone to restaurants, hosted dinner parties, or relaxed by the fire after a long day with your favorite adult beverage, you probably already know more than you think.
The easiest way to begin when learning more about wines is by color. Wines that are deep red are referred to as red wine and have names like Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Red Blend. Mac’s Raw Bar offers these flavors of red wine from wineries Cono Sur in Chile, Hayes Valley in California, and Quinta De Sardon in Spain, respectively.
We recommend pairing one of these delicious red wines with our Tuna Tartare Salad or our Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes.
Light and Medium Reds
If you want something lighter and crisp but still packed with flavor, many wines come in lighter versions of those listed above. Ask your server at Mac’s Raw Bar about Benton Lane Wine from the Willamette Valley in Oregon or the Gorgeous Grenache from Australia, which has aromatics of summer blackberries, dried plums, and notes of wild strawberry and spice, respectively.
White Wines
As with red wines, white wines come in various colors and flavors and are usually paired with lighter dishes like chicken, seafood, and appetizers. We offer a full line of white wines at Mac's Raw Bar, including Saget La Perriere, a Sauvignon Blanc from France, and Bertani, a Pinot Grigio from Italy.
Either wine makes a great choice, whether you’re opting for a bowl of our New England Clam Chowder to help warm you up or enjoying our classic Bucatini Amatriciana made with fresh pasta and sea scallops.
Other white wines considered light and crisp include Selbach Trocken, a Riesling from Greece, and Bodegas Garzon and Albarino from Uruguay, both capable of pairing with any selection from Mac’s fabulous brunch menu.
Bubbles for Everyday
Sparkling wines and champagne aren’t just for special occasions and New Year’s toasts. While ‘true Champagne’ only comes from the Champagne region in France, many others, like Prosecco and Brut, are well known for their full flavor and subtle hints of citrus and apple.
